I've used both AMD and Intel for gaming machines, and they both performed well although I personally prefer AMD chips.

A Macbook Pro would be best, but don't feel pressured to get it if you can't afford it. Any laptop really is fine, you don't have to buy the best straight away as you're just learning, all the software you'd need will be available on Mac or PC aswell.

It’s the holiday season . I’ve been to Macy’s, Old Navy, and Wal-Mart in a whirlwind mission to buy the perfect gifts for family members. While many of you out there might fire up your laptop and virtually shop at Amazon.com, this author prefers the old fashioned route. Who doesn’t like fighting crowds at a big box store in the cold anyway?
Curiously, I was out on Monday night at my local Best Buy (NYSE: BBY ), a store that has been open for less than two years and sits next to a Buffalo Wild Wings, where I usually watch Monday Night Football. Best Buy was empty. I’m not talking about a sparse population of shoppers, either. I mean truly and absolutely empty . No one. Nada. Desolate. I could have screamed bloody murder and no one would have heard a thing.
I was shopping for a big screen television for my bedroom and found a gorgeous 50-inch 3D LED unit from Samsung for $1,999 (open box), but I digress. When I came back home, I hit up the New York Times’ website and saw an article about Best Buy’s third quarter net income dropping a staggering 29%.
